The Aftermath...

Well, it's the day after the "big day," and unfortunately I'm at home today, instead of at work, because I have to watch Leila, who hasn't been feeling well the past few days. First and foremost, I'm glad it's over! Not to say that it was a bad experience, because it wasn't in the least bit, but it's a relief to have made it across that hurdle without falling flat on my face.
It was truly an interesting experience. We had pray meeting beforehand, so it was nice to have just about everyone go around the table and lift me up in prayer before it came time to teach. We ended up going a little long on the prayer meeting, so that ended up knocking off a few minutes from the time that I had to teach, since I still needed to end on time. That actually ended up working in my favor, as I ended my teaching at exactly 8:30 (at least the clock on my computer said 8:30). The rest of the good included me making it through all of my material, as I was a bit concerned about that; I wasn't sure if I had too little or too much information. I did fumble over my words a bit, and it really didn't "flow" like I thought it should have, but overall it was a good experience, I guess. You can judge for yourself by clicking here.
After this, I do realize a number of things. First, my writing is a lot more polished than my public speaking, a lot more polished! I think, with that in mind, I could really use some more public speaking opportunities to really begin to better use and refine the speaking aspect of the ministry that God has given me. I recognize that I haven't had many public speaking opportunities (other than that rare occasion in school when I had to give a speech or do a debate), so I really haven't had much practice. Definitely need to work on my eye contact with the crowd, instead of focusing so hard on my notes; but I guess that comes with time as well and becoming more comfortable being in front of people. Also need to speak a little slower, I think, and take my time, as well as cut out all the "ummms" when I'm trying to move to my next point.
That's about it, and we'll see what my pastor has to say when he returns from Spokane, WA. I'm definitely looking forward to his thoughts and/or critique. I did feel good when it was all over though, as many of the members came up and said that they could tell I put in a lot of study hours (which I did) and that they were able to walk away with something after hearing it. That's all that really matters anyway, right? It's not about me and how good I do, but about the Spirit being able to teach His Word through me, although I do realize that I am His representative and need to be the best that I can possibly be.
