I Told You

I told you that I would never hurt you
The words I said, that is what I meant
When I make a promise, it's one I intend to keep
I'm not trying to run away for something new
I've given my all, my back more than bent
For the rest of my life, it's with you I want to sleep

My word is all that I have to give
If you can't believe it, what more do I have left?
What's left after that is only my name
What good good is it if there's no life left to live?
Your words to me are hurtful and deft
They leave me battered, torn, and lame

All I want to do is glorify the One above
Honoring you and trying to give you what is best
Can I get the same treatment in return?
Truly my only desire is to shower you with endless love
To forsake all others and prove that you're better than the rest
I just ask that you do the same when it's your turn
